Find out exactly why your visa photo was rejected.
The DS-160 portal only says “does not meet requirements.” We measure every rule separately so you know which one failed — then correct the format and tell you straight when a retake is the honest fix.

Cropped to 2×2 in · head brought to 60% · re-encoded to sRGB under 240 KB. The background is the wall they actually stood against — we measure it, we don’t repaint it.

Questions
Why was my photo rejected by the DS-160 portal?+
The government portal checks size (600x600 to 1200x1200 px), file weight (under 240 KB), JPEG format, sRGB color, head height (50-69% of the image) and background — but it never tells you which check failed. Our checker runs the same checks and shows you exactly what's wrong.
Is the checker really free?+
Yes. Upload a photo and see all compliance checks for free, plus a watermarked preview. Paying unlocks the clean downloads: digital JPEG, 2x2" print file and 4x6" print sheet.
Do you store my photos?+
No. All processing (face detection, cropping, resizing) happens inside your browser. Your photo is never uploaded to any server.
Can I print at CVS or Walgreens?+
Yes — that's the point of the 4x6" sheet. Order it as a standard 4x6 photo print (about $0.39) and cut along the guides. Same photos cost $16.99 if taken in-store.
What if my photo still gets rejected?+
Follow the checker until every item is green — those are the official technical specs. If a portal still rejects a photo where every check passed, email us your licence key plus a screenshot of the portal's error and we refund in full. Full details, including the 7-day refund for unused credits, are on our refund policy page.
Can you just replace my background with white?+
We can, but by default we do not — and we would rather you knew why. The US State Department says a photo must not be changed with software, and that a bad background should be fixed by retaking the photo. Its systems look for signs of alteration. So we measure your background and tell you whether it passes; if it does not, the reliable fix is 30 seconds against a plain light wall. Software replacement stays available as a deliberate opt-in for cases where you judge it acceptable.
How do I contact you?+
Email is the only channel, and it reaches a person, not a queue: see the address in the footer. We reply within two business days — faster for anything payment-related.
