How to Print Passport Photos at CVS or Walgreens for $0.39

Walk into CVS or Walgreens and ask for passport photos, and you’ll pay $14.99–$16.99 for two small prints. But the same stores will print a standard 4×6 photo for about $0.39 — and a 4×6 sheet fits two 2×2 passport photos with room to spare. The trick is preparing the file correctly.

Step 1: Get a compliant photo

The photo itself still has to follow the official rules: white background, head filling 50–69% of the frame, neutral expression, no glasses. You can take it at home against any wall and run it through a free compliance checker that crops it and replaces the background automatically.

Step 2: Put it on a 4×6 sheet

Photo kiosks print fixed sizes, so you need your 2×2 photos laid out on a standard 4×6 canvas with cutting guides. Two things matter: the sheet must be exactly 4:6 ratio (or the kiosk will crop it), and the photos must sit inside a safe margin (kiosks often trim 3–5% at the edges). Step 3: Order the print

• Upload the sheet to the CVS / Walgreens / Walmart photo site, or bring it on your phone to a kiosk.
• Order one 4×6 glossy or matte print. Matte is slightly safer against glare for scanned documents.
• Never tap “fill”, “zoom” or any auto-crop option. Print as-is.
• Pick it up (often same hour), cut along the corner guides.

Will they accept it for a real application?

Yes — passport acceptance agents care about the photo itself (size, background, recency), not who printed it. A correctly prepared 4×6 print on photo paper is identical in quality to the in-store product.
